چکیده

Aircraft taxiing on the surface contribute significantly to the fuel burn and emissions at airports. This report is an overview of PARTNER’s Project 21, which tries to identify promising opportunities for surface optimization to reduce surface emissions at airports, estimate the potential benefits of these strategies, and assess the critical implementation barriers that need to be overcome prior to the adoption of these approaches at airports. We also present a new queuing network model of the departure processes at airports that can be used to develop advanced queue management strategies to decrease fuel burn and emissions. ∗This work was supported by FAA, NASA and Transport Canada under the Partnership for AiR Transportation Noise and Emissions Reduction(PARTNER)

Queuing Models of Airport Departure Processes for Emissions Reduction

Aircraft taxiing on the surface contribute significantly to the fuel burn and emissions at airports. This paper investigates the possibility of reducing fuel burn and emissions from surface operations through a reduction of the taxi times of departing aircraft. A novel approach is proposed that models the aircraft departure process as a queuing system, and attempts to reduce taxi times and emis...

Analysis of Emmissions Inventory for “single-engine Taxi-out” Operations

Stringent federal and state programs along with technology innovation have resulted in declining emissions from static sources (e.g. power plants) and are projected to meet national quality standards by 2025. The same cannot be said for mobile sources of emissions from flight operations at airports. In the absence changes in airport operations, the forecast rates of growth in flight operations ...

Performance Evaluation of a Surface Traffic Management Tool for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

This paper presents detailed results from a highfidelity human-in-the-loop evaluation of an airport surface decision support tool. The Spot And Runway Departure Advisor is designed to aid controllers in managing aircraft surface operations and is based on two optimization algorithms: the Spot Release Planner and the Runway Scheduler. The Spot Release Planner provides sequence and timing advisor...

A Methodology to Elaborate Aircraft Localization Requirements for Airport Navigation

The general increase in air traffic and the complexity of modern airport layouts have led to think about new system opportunities to assist pilots during maneuvers on airport surface. Two applications will be considered in this paper: guidance and control. Guidance application provides indication to the pilot to navigate on the airport surface whereas control application provides steering indic...

A Study of Severe Multipath Errors for the Proposed GBAS Airport Surface Movement Application

Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS), such as the U.S. Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) can be used for both precision approach and Differentially Corrected Positioning Service (DCPS) applications. Through its support of DCPS, the LAAS Ground Facility (LGF) is required to meet the integrity requirements of all other operations that could use the GBAS VHF Data Broadcast (VDB). Our previ...
